Cobolli's Historic Achievement

Paris [France], June 4: Flavio Cobolli has made headlines in Paris by securing his first Grand Slam semi-final appearance at Roland Garros.

The 24-year-old Italian showcased an impressive performance on Court Philippe-Chatrier, overcoming fourth-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

Since the shocking exit of top seed and last year's finalist Jannik Sinner in the second round, the top half of the men's draw has opened up significantly, creating opportunities for players like Cobolli.

Having not lost a set in his initial three matches, Cobolli faced some challenges in his fourth-round clash against Zachary Svajda, ultimately winning in a tense fourth-set tie-break.

In his quarter-final match, Cobolli displayed greater confidence, completing a three-hour and 23-minute battle against Auger-Aliassime. His victory guarantees an all-Italian men's Grand Slam semi-final, ensuring at least one Italian will compete in the final on Sunday.

The last Italian man to claim victory at Roland Garros was Adriano Panatta in 1976. Now just two wins away from his first major title, Cobolli is set to face fellow countryman Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals.

Reflecting on his performance, Cobolli stated, “I think we played two different matches today. The first set was incredibly windy and tough to play. I went to the toilet to think a bit and change something. This is the best court I have played on in my life because I can bring my best tennis. I told myself to fight as I felt this would be the chance of my life, and I have to give everything in my matches, and today I did it,” as reported on the ATP Tour website.
