Exciting Finale Awaits in Cape Town

Cape Town [South Africa], October 31: The final Test match between South Africa and Australia is gearing up for an exhilarating conclusion this Saturday, with the series outcome, the coveted No. 1 Test ranking, and vital World Test Championship points all hanging in the balance on the last day.

Ryan Rickelton, the wicketkeeper for South Africa, emphasized the significance of the match, declaring that a decisive result is imminent, stating, “No draw tomorrow.”

Remarkable centuries from both Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder fueled a stunning comeback for South Africa, setting a daunting target of 288 runs for Australia to secure victory in this crucial third Test of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 at Newlands, Cape Town.

Starting their second innings under pressure at 140/4 on the fourth day, South Africa was ultimately bowled out for 387 runs in 134.4 overs.

“It’s win or lose, I guess. No draw tomorrow. If you had told me it would come down to the third Test, day five, with all outcomes possible, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s been a remarkable series,” Rickelton remarked, as reported by a sports media outlet.

The innings for South Africa was bolstered by an impressive sixth-wicket partnership of 154 runs between Rickelton, who scored 101 off 219 balls, and Mulder, who added 115 off 221 deliveries. This partnership stands as the second-highest sixth-wicket collaboration for South Africa against Australia in Test history.

Rickelton also pointed out that while the new ball might provide scoring chances for Australia, the slow and deteriorating pitch could pose challenges in maintaining the necessary run rate of three runs per over throughout the day.

“I believe that with the new ball, runs are certainly available, but so are wickets. The pitch has been quite slow. If Australia decides to take a chance, it could play a role. However, batting at an effective three runs per over all day will be a significant challenge, especially on a slower, lower pitch,” he added.

In their first innings, South Africa scored 329 runs, while Australia responded with 429, establishing a crucial 100-run lead.

With the three-match World Test Championship series tied at 1-1, both teams are vying for victory as they approach the decisive moments of the third Test.
