Enhanced Security for FIFA World Cup Matches

Washington DC [US], June 17: The FIFA World Cup 2026 is implementing counter-drone technology at all matches taking place in the United States, as stated by Andrew Giuliani, who leads the White House World Cup Task Force, according to reports from a News Media outlet.

This initiative follows an alleged drone attack scheme aimed at the UFC 250 event near the White House, with law enforcement identifying FIFA World Cup matches as potential targets.

Giuliani confirmed that all 78 matches in the U.S., along with fan festivals in each host city, will be safeguarded by counter-drone systems throughout the tournament.

“Every match in the United States will have counter-drone mitigation protection, and each fan fest in every city will also be covered by these systems during the World Cup,” Giuliani mentioned, as reported by the News Media.

The United States, in collaboration with Mexico and Canada, is hosting the FIFA World Cup from June 11 to July 19.

The U.S. kicked off their campaign on June 12 with a resounding 4-1 victory over Paraguay, highlighted by impressive performances from Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic.

Balogun netted two goals, while Pulisic was instrumental, consistently challenging the Paraguayan defense and contributing significantly to the team's attacking efforts.

The USA took an early lead in the 7th minute when Pulisic delivered a brilliant pass to Weston McKennie, leading to an own goal by Damian Bobadilla. Balogun then extended the lead in the 31st minute, finishing a precise cross from Pulisic.

Balogun secured his second goal deep into stoppage time (90+8′), skillfully maneuvering past two defenders to finalize a comfortable victory for the hosts, who dominated the match.

Paraguay managed to score in the 73rd minute through Mauricio Magalhães but could not sustain a comeback against a strong U.S. team.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino chose to rest Pulisic at halftime, substituting him with Sebastian Berhalter, as the USA looks to manage their squad for the lengthy tournament ahead.

In the closing moments, Gio Reyna added to the scoreline with a spectacular long-range shot, finding the top corner and sealing an emphatic opening win for the hosts.
