In a recent statement, FIFA expressed regret to its member associations regarding the mismanagement of the now-retracted FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal, which aimed to commercialize World Cup rights. This announcement followed a meeting held in Rabat, Morocco, where FIFA's leadership reaffirmed its support for President Gianni Infantino.

The FFE initiative, designed to streamline the sale of FIFA's commercial rights—including broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing, and licensing—was intended to generate up to USD 4.2 billion by offering minority stakes to outside investors. However, this plan sparked significant backlash from the football community, particularly from UEFA, which felt that the integrity of the FIFA World Cup was at risk.

Concerns were also voiced by CONCACAF, the governing body for football in North America, which highlighted issues such as a lack of due process and an insufficient consultation period. Following widespread criticism, FIFA decided to abandon the FFE proposal.

Despite this withdrawal, Infantino faced continued discontent, with the Football Association in England poised to retract its support for his re-election, following similar actions from the Football Association of Wales.

In its statement, FIFA acknowledged the mistakes made during the FFE proposal's handling, admitting that the FIFA Council and member associations should not have felt sidelined. The organization also recognized that errors occurred after the proposal's details were leaked to the press.
