New Delhi, July 15: The sixth day of the Oriental Cup 2026 was marked by bright sunshine and pleasant weather, creating perfect conditions for football at the Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.
The quarterfinals featured four intense matches, showcasing dramatic moments and exceptional individual performances. Delhi Public School, Vasant Vihar, Step by Step School, Noida, Mother’s International School, Delhi, and G.D. Goenka School, Dwarka all secured their spots in the semi-finals, as reported by a media release.
In the first quarterfinal, Delhi Public School, Vasant Vihar staged a remarkable comeback to win against Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram with a score of 3-1. Ayush Ranjan gave DPS R.K. Puram an early advantage in the fourth minute, but Idaant Trivedi equalized for DPS Vasant Vihar shortly after in the ninth minute.
Abhyuday Singh then put his team ahead in the 12th minute and completed his brace with another goal in the 40th minute, ensuring a solid comeback victory and a place in the semi-finals.
The second quarterfinal saw Step by Step School, Noida narrowly defeat St. Francis De Sales Senior Secondary School 2-1 in a tightly contested match. Naunidh Gandhi scored first in the 10th minute, but Hirom Perryn quickly equalized for St. Francis De Sales just two minutes later.
Gandhi responded swiftly, regaining the lead for Step by Step School in the 14th minute. His two goals proved crucial as Step by Step held on for a hard-fought win, advancing to the semi-finals.
Mother’s International School, Delhi, also made it to the semi-finals after a narrow 1-0 victory over Mount Carmel School, Dwarka in the third quarterfinal. The first half was evenly matched, with neither team able to score.
The turning point came in the 24th minute when Mount Carmel School conceded a penalty, which Dhruv Tuli successfully converted, securing Mother’s International School’s progression to the next round.
The day concluded with G.D. Goenka School, Dwarka, achieving a convincing 2-0 win against Vasant Valley School in the final quarterfinal. Kaartikya Kashyap Chugh was in fine form, scoring both goals in the 11th and 23rd minutes, leading his team to a comfortable victory.
The Oriental Cup 2026 will continue tomorrow with four exciting semi-final matches, featuring both Boys’ and Girls’ categories, as the tournament approaches its climax.
This fourth edition, running from July 7 to July 16 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, is set to showcase over 1,500 student-athletes from more than 45 teams across Delhi-NCR. The tournament boasts a significantly increased prize pool and a Rs 2.5 lakh scholarship program for ten deserving student-athletes.
