Highlights from the WPL 2027 Mini Auction
Kochi (Keralam) [India], October 28: In a thrilling turn of events at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction held in Kochi, young talent Saanika Chalke was acquired by the Mumbai Indians for ₹10 lakh. Additionally, Scotland's Kirstie Gordon and all-rounder Kathryn Bryce were among the notable signings made by various franchises.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen at her base price of ₹40 lakh. Jonassen, who has previously played three seasons with Delhi Capitals, is currently sidelined from the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) due to a hip injury but is expected to return by January.
Mumbai Indians also made a significant move by signing 20-year-old left-handed batter Saanika Chalke for ₹10 lakh. Chalke has shown immense potential, notably scoring a double century in an Under-19 one-day tournament against Sikkim in 2022.
She was part of the Indian team that triumphed in the 2025 Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup. Earlier this year, Chalke emerged as the top run-scorer in the Mumbai T20 competition, amassing 223 runs in five matches at an impressive strike rate of 142.94. She also scored 85 runs off 53 balls for Mumbai against Jharkhand in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 Trophy prior to the auction.
UP Warriorz made a strategic acquisition by signing Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce for ₹10 lakh, while her sister, Sarah Bryce, went unsold during the auction.
Furthermore, UP Warriorz added Manali Dakshini and Sahana Pawar to their roster, each for ₹10 lakh, as they continue to strengthen their squad.
Delhi Capitals welcomed Uma Kashvi and Scotland's left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon, both for ₹10 lakh. Gordon, who recently transitioned from representing England to Scotland, entered the auction under the Associate category. She has previously played five T20I matches for England during the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup and participated in a Test match against Australia in 2019.
The Gujarat Giants also made headlines by acquiring 16-year-old all-rounder Samaira Raghav for ₹10 lakh, who was one of the four players added to the auction pool just before the event.
However, several players did not attract any bids during the auction. Indian players such as Devika Vaidya, Pranavi Chandra, Ira Jadhav, Tanisha Ohlan, Khushi Bhatia, Nazma Khan, Triveni Vasistha, and Palak Singh went unsold.
Among the international players, UAE captain Esha Oza, Australian left-arm spinner Milly Illingworth, and New Zealand fast bowler Bree Illing also failed to secure contracts.
