Tuchel's Plea for Change

In Texas, USA, on June 18, England's coach Thomas Tuchel expressed his concerns following his team's 4-2 victory against Croatia in their FIFA World Cup opener. He urged FIFA to reconsider the positioning of photographers during pre-match ceremonies, as he was unable to witness his players during the national anthem, marking his first World Cup as a manager.

Despite captain Harry Kane scoring two goals, Croatia managed to equalize twice through Martin Baturina and Petar Musa before halftime. However, England regained control in the second half, with Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford sealing the win. Tuchel's frustration stemmed from being obstructed by photographers, which prevented him from seeing his players during the anthem.

Tuchel, who stood silently during 'God Save The King', lamented the missed opportunity to witness a significant moment for his team. He stated, "I am begging FIFA to change the position of the photographers during the national anthem. I was standing in front of a wall of 50 photographers, and I could not see a single player. It slightly marred my experience. This occasion was too big to dream of when I started coaching."

The tension didn't end there; Tuchel also had a heated exchange with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. After England took an early lead, Tuchel was dissatisfied with Pickford's decisions, which kept the score tied at 2-2 before halftime. The pitch-side microphones captured Tuchel instructing Pickford to play the ball to the right back instead of making risky passes while off-balance. When Pickford attempted to respond, Tuchel insisted, "You know what you are supposed to do, do as I told you!"

Kane's performance was noteworthy, as he scored a penalty in the 12th minute and another goal in the 42nd minute, marking a strong start for England. With this achievement, Kane became only the second England player to score in three different FIFA World Cups, joining the ranks of David Beckham.

Additionally, Kane reached a significant milestone, scoring his 10th World Cup goal, tying with Gary Lineker for the most by an England player. He also set a new record for the most non-penalty shootout penalties scored in World Cup history, bringing his total to five.

During the match, Croatian player Ivan Perisic made history as well, becoming the second player to provide an assist in four different FIFA World Cups, joining Lionel Messi in this exclusive club.
