England's First Innings Flourish
Leeds [UK] June 21: Following a successful bowling performance, England commenced their first innings with confidence on Saturday, reaching 107/1 at Tea on the second day of the inaugural Test match against India.
After Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley in the opening over, Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett stabilized the innings for England. The match faced interruptions due to rain, which arrived shortly after Josh Tongue claimed the last wicket of India's first innings.
Pope and Duckett accelerated the scoring, surpassing the 50-run mark by the 10th over.
Duckett achieved his half-century in the 22nd over, hitting a four off Ravindra Jadeja. The duo also celebrated a 100-run partnership for the second wicket.
Earlier that day, Rishabh Pant's impressive century propelled India to 454/7 during the pre-lunch session of the second day at Headingley, Leeds.
England's captain Ben Stokes secured his fourth wicket of the innings, dismissing Shardul Thakur for just one run just before lunch. Prior to this, Josh Tongue made a significant breakthrough by removing Rishabh Pant for 134 runs.
Shubman Gill was dismissed after a commendable innings of 147, caught at deep square leg off Shoaib Bashir in the 102nd over.
India resumed the second day at 359/3, with Gill not out on 127 and Pant unbeaten on 62.
