England Women's T20 World Cup Squad Announced
London [UK], April 28: The selectors for England's women's cricket team have officially announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Veteran player Nat Sciver-Brunt will take on the role of captain, marking her seventh appearance in a T20 World Cup, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Joining Sciver-Brunt is 18-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, along with Issy Wong and Lauren Filer, all of whom are set to make their T20 World Cup debuts. Danni Wyatt-Hodge will be participating in her eighth tournament.
All-rounder Charlie Dean has been appointed as vice-captain, enhancing the squad's all-rounder strength, while fast bowler Lauren Bell is anticipated to lead the bowling lineup.
Head coach Charlotte Edwards, who previously captained England to victory in the 2009 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, will have a squad with over 960 T20 International caps at her disposal for the tournament, which kicks off on June 12 at Edgbaston.
Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt expressed her excitement about leading the team at a home T20 World Cup, emphasizing the support from local fans. She mentioned that the team has been looking forward to this event and is eager to perform well in their quest to reclaim the World Cup title.
“It is a tremendous honor to captain England in a T20 World Cup at home, surrounded by family, friends, and our dedicated supporters. We have been anticipating this summer and the tournament for quite some time, and with the squad now finalized, we are ready to hit the field and strive for victory,” she stated.
Charlotte Edwards remarked on the challenging nature of selecting the squad, citing the wealth of talent available. She noted that this selection process was the most difficult she has experienced, with numerous players vying for a spot.
“The uncertainty is over; we have finalized our ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad. It has been incredibly challenging to narrow it down to these 15 players. The depth of talent has made this the toughest selection meeting I have ever been part of, which is exactly what we aim for,” Edwards commented.
Edwards also highlighted the significance of hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on home turf, expressing the team's motivation to achieve great things during the tournament.
“Making these tough decisions is a privilege we do not take lightly. Hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at home is a unique opportunity for the sport in this country, and we are all highly motivated by the potential achievements of this group this summer,” she added.
