England's Squad Announcement for Second Test

London [UK], June 16: England has announced its lineup for the upcoming second Test match against New Zealand at The Oval, featuring Jordan Cox and Sonny Baker, who are both set to make their Test debuts.

The team has undergone four changes following their recent 115-run victory at Lord's, which elevated them to seventh place in the World Test Championship standings, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Jofra Archer makes a return to the Test squad after last playing in December of the previous year, while Matt Fisher is poised to play his first Test since debuting in Barbados in 2022.

For Cox, this opportunity comes after a series of injuries that previously hindered his chances of earning a Test cap. The Essex batsman recently showcased his skills with the England Lions and impressed in the Vitality Blast, scoring a brisk 40 runs off just 31 balls earlier this week.

Ollie Robinson is a notable absence from the squad. He made a strong comeback to Test cricket with a remarkable seven-wicket haul in the series opener but will miss this match due to injury.

Archer's return strengthens a pace-heavy bowling lineup that includes Fisher, Josh Tongue, and fellow debutant Baker, as England aims to secure the series against New Zealand.

Joe Root has been appointed as the interim captain in the absence of Ben Stokes, with Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Emilio Gay, and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith also included in the playing XI.
