Bulawayo [Zimbabwe], January 13: In a thrilling U-19 World Cup warm-up match, England's under-19 team secured a 20-run win over India, utilizing the DLS method due to rain interruptions on Monday.
When the rain halted play, England was in a strong position at 196/3, with Thomas Rew not out on 71 and Caleb Falconer contributing 29 runs.
India opted to bat first after winning the toss in what was the final warm-up match for both teams.
England's bowling attack made an impressive start, with Sebastian Morgan taking the crucial wicket of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the third over, followed by Vedant Trivedi's dismissal in the seventh over, leaving India struggling at 40/2, as reported by the ICC.
Despite a brief recovery led by skipper Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra, James Minto's two wickets shortly after the power play further hindered India's progress, putting them at a precarious 74/4.
Ambrish Sukumar and Abhigyan Kundu then displayed remarkable resilience, forming a partnership that added 97 runs over 20 overs, reviving India's innings. Sukumar was eventually dismissed for 48 by Manny Lumsden, but Harvansh Pangalia joined Kundu to add a quick 36 runs, pushing India past the 200-run mark.
Although Pangalia fell in the 40th over, Kanishk Chouhan provided a late surge with a rapid 45 off 36 balls. Minto capped off a stellar performance by taking the wickets of Kundu and Mohamed Enaan, concluding India's innings at a competitive 295/8.
James Minto's exceptional bowling figures of 5/34 were the highlight for England, while Sebastian Morgan and Manny Lumsden contributed with two and one wicket, respectively, according to the ICC.
Henil Patel gave India an early breakthrough by dismissing Ben Dawkins in the second over. England responded with a solid 77-run partnership between Joe Moores and Ben Mayers. Khilan Patel broke the stand by taking Mayers for 37 and soon dismissed Moores for 46, leaving England at 104/3.
Captain Thomas Rew and Caleb Falconer then formed an unbroken 92-run partnership, leading England to victory with a total of 196, comfortably exceeding the revised target of 177. Rew's captaincy was highlighted by his 71 runs off 66 balls, while Falconer supported with 29 runs.
For India, Khilan Patel was the standout bowler with figures of 2/38, while Henil Patel was the only other wicket-taker in the innings.
