Historic Goalless Draw for England

Massachusetts [US], June 24: England has unfortunately established a new record for the highest number of goalless draws in FIFA World Cup history following their 0-0 match against Ghana during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L encounter.

With this latest draw, England's tally of goalless matches in World Cup history has reached 13, making them the team with the most such results in the tournament's history, according to reports from a sports news outlet.

The list of England's scoreless matches dates back to the 1958 World Cup against Brazil and includes encounters with Bulgaria in 1962, Uruguay in 1966, West Germany and Spain in 1982, Morocco in 1986, Netherlands in 1990, Nigeria in 2002, Portugal in 2006, Algeria in 2010, Costa Rica in 2014, the United States in 2022, and now Ghana in 2026.

Despite entering the match with confidence after a 4-2 victory over Croatia, England maintained possession and controlled significant portions of the game but found it challenging to penetrate Ghana's solid five-man defense. Harry Kane often found himself isolated, and England's creative players struggled to find space, failing to register a single shot on target in the first half.

In the second half, coach Tuchel made strategic substitutions, bringing on Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Eberechi Eze to inject more attacking energy, while Jude Bellingham was substituted for Morgan Rogers after achieving 50 international caps at the young age of 22 years and 359 days, making him the youngest male player to reach this milestone.

Following these changes, England ramped up their pressure, with Nico O'Reilly striking the crossbar in the 87th minute, and Harry Kane missing the rebound. Ghana faced a late challenge as they cleared a header off the line during stoppage time, preserving their clean sheet.

Despite their relentless efforts, England could not secure a goal and had to settle for a draw, keeping them at the top of Group L with four points from two matches, tied on points with second-placed Ghana.
