England Reveals Squad for Second T20I Against India at Old Trafford
England's Lineup for the Second T20I
Manchester [UK], July 3: The England men's cricket team has unveiled their playing eleven for the upcoming second T20I in the five-match series against India, scheduled for Saturday at Old Trafford in Manchester.
In a strategic move, England has made two adjustments to their lineup, introducing Josh Tongue for his T20I debut and bringing Jofra Archer back into the squad. Saqib Mahmood and Luke Wood have been omitted from the team.
Both teams are eager to take the lead in the series after the first T20I ended without a result due to rain. Nevertheless, India managed to complete their full quota of 20 overs before the weather intervened.
After winning the toss, India chose to bat first, sticking with their seasoned opening pair, which means domestic star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will have to wait for his much-anticipated international debut.
Initially, this decision appeared to backfire as India's top order struggled under pressure, with Sanju Samson dismissed for just 1 run.
Ishan Kishan also fell victim to a run-out without scoring, following a disastrous mix-up.
In the midst of this turmoil, Abhishek Sharma launched a remarkable counter-attack.
The explosive left-handed batsman revived the innings alongside Shreyas Iyer, reaching his fifty in just 20 balls. Abhishek was eventually dismissed LBW by Sam Curran in the ninth over, having scored a blistering 59 runs off 24 balls, including four sixes and six fours.
After Abhishek's exit, Shreyas Iyer took charge, stabilizing the innings with a solid 67 runs off 47 balls (6 fours, 1 six). He formed essential partnerships, contributing 36 runs for the fourth wicket with Tilak Varma (13 off 13) and 41 runs for the fifth wicket with Shivam Dube.
Iyer's steady presence allowed Shivam Dube to unleash his power at the end of the innings. Dube played a crucial unbeaten knock of 42 runs off just 21 balls, hitting three sixes and two boundaries, helping the team reach 189/7 in their 20 overs. Unfortunately, rain disrupted the match, leading to a no-result.
England's squad for the second T20I against India includes:
Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (Captain), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue.
