England's Squad Update Ahead of Crucial ODI

London [UK], September 26: In a significant change for the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka at The Oval on September 27, England has brought in Dan Lawrence to replace Jos Buttler. The series is currently tied at 1-1, making this match crucial for both teams.

Buttler played a pivotal role in England's first ODI victory, scoring 31 runs, and was instrumental in the second match's chase. Batting at the fourth position, he initiated a counter-attack after England found themselves at 157 for three while pursuing a target of 322 runs, according to the ICC website.

Unfortunately, Buttler's innings ended prematurely in the 38th over when he seemed to injure his left hamstring while attempting a second run after reaching 66 runs. He briefly exited the field but returned later, managing to add only three more runs as England ultimately fell short by 16 runs.

With Buttler unable to participate in the decisive match, young wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox may get his chance. Although he has only played three ODIs, Cox made a strong impression during England's recent Test series against Pakistan, amassing 202 runs at an impressive average of 50.50 over three matches.

Meanwhile, Lawrence presents another option for England as they prepare for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The 28-year-old has yet to make his limited-overs debut for England but has played 17 Tests, scoring 65 runs in his latest match against Pakistan and contributing with two wickets through his off-spin bowling.
