Empowering Women: WIAA Women’s Car Rally Kicks Off in Mumbai
Celebrating Women’s Empowerment Through Motorsports
The WIAA Women’s Car Rally to Valley 2026 commenced on Saturday from NSCI in Mumbai, featuring a vibrant ceremony that combined the spirit of a festival with a strong message of empowerment.
Nitin Dossa, the Chairman of the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA), along with officials from JK Tyre, officially launched the rally, creating an electrifying atmosphere at NSCI even before the engines roared to life.
More than 200 women took part in this rally, showcasing vehicles themed around important issues such as women's empowerment, cancer awareness, and gender equality, as they embarked on their journey towards the Novotel Imagicaa hotel in Khopoli.
Participants donned themed outfits, and their vehicles were decorated to reflect their chosen causes, while families and supporters gathered to cheer, giving the event a festive ambiance.
This rally utilized the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format, emphasizing precision, consistency, and teamwork rather than outright speed. Unlike traditional races, the TSD format rewards accuracy and strategic pacing as participants navigate the hilly routes, covering around 125 km before arriving at the Novotel Imagicaa hotel, making it a true test of both strategy and driving skills.
Organized by the WIAA, a non-profit organization with a 107-year legacy dedicated to promoting safe mobility, road safety awareness, and environmental sustainability, this rally has transformed from a competitive motorsport event into a vibrant celebration of womanhood and resilience, highlighting the critical need for women's safety on the roads.
This year's rally reinforced these values with renewed vigor, resonating with global road safety initiatives like #CommitToLife and #BeSafeBeStrong.
