London [UK], September 4 (News Media): The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided not to include seamer Brydon Carse in the squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, even though he is available for selection.

As reported by Cricinfo, an ECB representative stated that this choice is intended to allow Carse the necessary time to deal with the issues stemming from the Derby incident and to reset himself. They emphasized that this decision does not imply any assumptions regarding the ongoing investigation.

The series will kick off with three T20I matches, starting with the first game in Southampton on September 15, followed by the second T20I in Cardiff on September 17, and concluding with the third in Manchester on September 19.

Following the T20Is, the teams will transition to the ODI format, with the first ODI scheduled for Chester-le-Street on September 22, the second in Leeds on September 24, and the series finale at The Oval on September 27.

Carse was removed from England's Test squad after a brief arrest on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a bar while celebrating with his Durham teammates after their County Championship win.

Derbyshire Police have confirmed that they are looking into an alleged assault related to this incident, although it remains unclear what role, if any, Carse played.

He was also omitted from England's squads for the third Test against Pakistan and the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

“Although Brydon was available for selection, he has not been included in the squad for the Sri Lanka series. Given the recent events, we believe it is crucial for him to address the issues that arose from the Derby incident and take the time needed for a proper reset. This decision does not prejudge the outcome of any investigation,” the ECB spokesperson told Cricinfo.

Previously, Carse faced disciplinary action for off-field behavior in 2024, receiving a three-month ban along with a longer suspension for past violations of the ECB's betting regulations. Since then, he has become a key player across formats for England and was their top wicket-taker during last winter's Ashes series in Australia.
