Dwayne Bravo Reflects on MS Dhoni's Unique Leadership Style in IPL
Bravo Shares Memorable IPL Experience with Dhoni
New Delhi, January 4: Dwayne Bravo, the former West Indies cricketer and a key player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), reminisced about a significant moment from the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). He highlighted how MS Dhoni, the then-captain, recognized and appreciated his bowling abilities, affectionately referring to him as a "brother from another mother."
During an appearance on the 'Beard Before Wicket' podcast, Bravo recounted an incident where Dhoni advised him against diving on the field, emphasizing that his bowling overs were more crucial than saving a few runs.
Bravo explained, "In 2018, after our return from the ban, I attempted to dive for a ball while fielding at long-on. Being 34 at the time, Dhoni called me over and said, 'Do not ever dive on my cricket field again. Your four overs are more important than saving four runs.' I was taken aback by his words."
He continued, "After that, I focused on fielding within the circle. Dhoni understands each player's strengths and wants them to excel in their roles without trying to be someone else. He clearly communicated what he expected from me, which built my confidence."
Bravo also praised the leadership of Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming, noting their ability to let players express their individuality. He remarked, "They are non-judgmental and maintain a consistent approach, regardless of individual or team performance. This is what makes CSK unique."
Despite a challenging last season where CSK secured only four wins out of 14 matches, Bravo's respect for the franchise remains unwavering.
