Warm Reception for Dhiraj Bommadevara

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 6: Indian archer Dhiraj Bommadevara was greeted with enthusiasm by family, friends, sports officials, and fans upon his return to Vijayawada after achieving double silver medals at the Asian Games 2026 held in Japan.


On Tuesday, the Vijayawada airport was filled with supporters who came to celebrate Dhiraj's accomplishments.


In an interview, Dhiraj expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, stating that such support inspires him to strive harder and bring pride to both his country and state. He mentioned that his upcoming goals include competing in the World Championships, which will provide Olympic qualification opportunities, followed by the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.


“I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome from my coaches, family, friends, and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh. This reception motivates me to work even harder and to represent our country with pride,” he shared.


He further noted, “Next year, we have the World Championships, which are crucial for Olympic quotas, and then the LA Olympics.”


Dhiraj, alongside teammates Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge and Neeraj Chauhan, earned a silver medal in the men's recurve team event after a 1-5 defeat against South Korea in the finals.


Additionally, he partnered with Kumkum Mohod to secure another silver in the mixed recurve archery team event, narrowly losing 3-5 to China's Zhu Jingyi and Li Mengqi in the gold medal match.
