Conway's Return Amid Family Commitments

New Delhi [India] - New Zealand anticipates that opening batsman Devon Conway will be back in action for the second Test against England at The Oval next week. This comes after Conway undertook a lengthy 23,000-mile journey to Wellington to be present for the birth of his second child.

In the first Test at Lord's, Conway managed scores of 1 and 41, contributing to New Zealand's 115-run defeat in a match characterized by low scores. He has returned home to support his wife, Kim, during this significant family moment.

Despite the extensive travel, New Zealand is optimistic that the left-handed batsman will rejoin the team in time for the second Test, which is crucial for the visitors as they aim to equalize the series against England.

A statement from New Zealand confirmed, "BLACKCAPS batter Devon Conway has briefly returned home to New Zealand to welcome the birth of his second child. Conway will spend some time at home with family before flying back to London ahead of the second Test against England at The Oval, starting Wednesday, June 17."

Following a tough loss in the first Test, the Kiwi players have been granted a short break in the UK. They have yet to practice at The Oval on Friday, with another day off scheduled for Saturday.

The lead-up to the second Test has been complicated by off-field issues for England, as Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were dropped from the squad due to their involvement in a late-night incident at a London nightclub earlier this week.

This controversy has taken center stage in the media, resulting in an unexpected leadership shift for England, with veteran batsman Joe Root stepping in as interim captain. This disruption adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming match as England strives to maintain focus during a challenging week.
