Historic Achievement for Deepti Sharma

In a remarkable display of skill, Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has matched the record of former fast bowler Jhulan Goswami for the most wickets taken in women's international cricket. This milestone was reached during India's second Group A match in the Women's T20 World Cup against the Netherlands held in Leeds, where Deepti recorded figures of 1/26 in three overs.


Both players now share the record with 355 international wickets each, followed closely by England's Katherine Sciver-Brunt with 335, Australian cricketing icon Ellyse Perry with 332, England's spinner Sophie Ecclestone at 327, and South Africa's Shabnim Ismail with 318 wickets.


Deepti Sharma stands as India's second-highest wicket-taker in ODIs, having claimed 166 wickets in 124 matches, trailing only Jhulan's impressive tally of 255. In the T20 format, Deepti leads globally with 167 wickets from 146 matches, and she has also taken 22 wickets in six Test matches for India.


In the match against the Netherlands, the Dutch team chose to bat first. Key contributions from Smriti Mandhana, who scored 74 runs off 47 balls, and Shafali Verma, who added 55 runs off 38 balls, propelled India to a total of 209/5, marking their highest score in T20 World Cup history. The Indian bowlers then dominated, with Shree Charani taking 4/19, Shafali 3/20, and Nandni 2/22, leading to the Netherlands being bowled out for just 114 runs after being 96/4 at one point. With this victory, India currently leads Group A with four points.
