Dubai [UAE], September 1: Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma marked her 150th T20I appearance with a cake-cutting ceremony following her team's victory over Thailand in the opening match of the women's Asia Cup.

In this recent match, Deepti became the third Indian woman to achieve the milestone of 150 T20I matches, joining the ranks of Harmanpreet Kaur (202 matches) and Smriti Mandhana (171 matches). She contributed five runs and delivered an impressive bowling performance, finishing with figures of 0/3 in just 1.1 overs. Notably, she also became the leading wicket-taker in T20Is during this game.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Amol Muzumdar, the head coach of the Indian women's team, praised Deepti for her unwavering commitment and hard work in both practice and matches. He stated, “I have never seen her miss a single practice session, let alone a match. She is always the first to arrive at the nets and the last to leave. This achievement is a testament to your dedication, Deepti. Keep aiming high; there are another 150 games ahead of you!”

Following the match, the Indian team celebrated Deepti's achievement with a cake-cutting ceremony.

Deepti also became the leading wicket-taker in Women's T20 Internationals, surpassing Thailand's Thipatcha Putthawong with a total of 171 wickets. She achieved a remarkable bowling feat, taking three wickets without conceding any runs, making her the first Indian cricketer to do so in Women's T20Is.

Her outstanding figures of 3/0 represent the most economical three-wicket haul by an Indian in Women's T20I history, breaking the previous record held by Renuka Singh, who had 3/5 against Sri Lanka in Sylhet in 2022.

With her 171 wickets, Deepti leads the list of highest wicket-takers in Women's T20Is, followed closely by Thipatcha Putthawong (170), Henriette Ishimwe from Rwanda (164), England's Sophie Ecclestone (154), and Kary Chan from Hong Kong (153).

In Women's T20I cricket, there have been only 26 instances of bowlers taking three or more wickets without conceding a run, and Deepti is the first Indian to achieve this milestone.

In the match, India set a target of 159/9, thanks to a stellar 64-run performance from Shafali Verma off 36 balls, which included eight fours and three sixes. Despite a late-game collapse, India managed to establish a challenging target.

Thailand struggled in their chase, being bowled out for just 65 runs in 16.1 overs, with Nandni Sharma taking 3/18 and Shree Charani claiming 2/10, showcasing India's dominant spin attack. Nannapat Koncharoenkai was the standout batter for Thailand, scoring 41 runs off 48 balls.

India's next match is against Hong Kong Women on September 3.
