Meerut Spartans Claim Championship Title
In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on July 2, DDH Meerut Spartans emerged victorious in the Future Star Under-15 Championship, defeating Karim Capital Chargers by nine wickets at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Spartans successfully chased down a target of 108 runs with over three overs to spare.
The Chargers struggled after being put to bat first. Arjun Mishra was the top scorer with 27 runs, while Eklavya contributed a late 22. However, their innings faltered against Prakhar Vishnoi, who claimed four wickets for 33 runs and had two players stumped. Ashwin Mavi and Avi Kumar also made significant contributions with two wickets each, leading to the Chargers being bowled out for 107 runs with three balls remaining.
Although Meerut Spartans lost their opener Atharv Sharma for 13 runs, caught and bowled by Arav Patel, they maintained control of the match. Haryaksh and Ansh Mittal completed the chase, with Haryaksh finishing not out at 57 runs off 56 balls, including three sixes, while Mittal remained not out on 31 runs.
Final scores: Karim Capital Chargers 107 all out in 19.3 overs (Arjun Mishra 27, Eklavya 22, Aaditya 16; Prakhar Vishnoi 4/33, Ashwin Mavi 2/10, Avi Kumar 2/17) lost to DDH Meerut Spartans 108/1 in 16.3 overs (Haryaksh 57 not out, Ansh Mittal 31 not out) by nine wickets. Prakhar Vishnoi was awarded Player of the Match.
Subhash Rajput from Red Rock, the tournament organizer, expressed, “This is precisely what we aimed to create—a platform where a fifteen-year-old can showcase their skills in front of a live audience and feel the significance of their performance.” He praised the Meerut Spartans as the most well-rounded team throughout the eight-day event, noting that both finalists deserved their accolades.
The championship, supported by the Krishna Apra Group, spanned eight days and provided many young players with their first opportunity to play in front of an audience beyond their local boundaries. The tournament also received backing from cricketing figures Aakash Chopra and Parthiv Patel, which helped elevate the profile of the age group.
The tournament format included group matches, knockout rounds, and a final, ensuring that the Under-15 teams experienced a comprehensive competition rather than a single weekend event, which ultimately raised the standard of play. The Karim Capital Chargers fought through a full bracket to reach the final, while the Meerut Spartans left Ghaziabad as champions, with match statistics and a streamed final that will accompany both teams as they progress to the next age group. For these fifteen-year-olds, that experience is what truly endures.
