This incident marks the first controversy for the star batter since his 12-month ban in 2018 for a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, where it was revealed he had conspired to alter the ball's condition using sandpaper. Additionally, he was permanently barred from holding a leadership position within the national team due to this incident.
