Miller Sets Sights on World Cup Success

As South Africa gears up to face Australia, star batsman David Miller is eager to contribute significantly in the white-ball formats, with aspirations of clinching his first Cricket World Cup title.

At the age of 37, Miller brings a wealth of experience to the Proteas, having played 178 ODIs, including 28 against Australia, their upcoming opponents in the ODI series.

He is set to make his ODI return on September 24, marking his first appearance in this format since March 2025.

"The Cricket World Cup is a quest and a dream for every player and team participating. Everyone wants to win it," Miller expressed, as reported by ICC.

He shared his mindset as he approaches his fourth World Cup, emphasizing the importance of team alignment and strategy. "We’ve played excellent cricket over the past few years. Although we haven’t won a World Cup yet, we’ve been close," he noted.

Reflecting on South Africa's near misses in the semi-finals in 2015 and 2023, Miller stressed the need to manage expectations and avoid unnecessary pressure.

"When you push too hard for something, mistakes can happen, leading to panic and unclear thinking. We’re focusing on the process, ensuring thorough preparation, and trusting our skills to shine through. Keeping it simple is key, even if it sounds cliché," he added.

Looking ahead to next year's Cricket World Cup, Miller expressed excitement about playing in front of a home crowd. "Participating in a World Cup is incredible, but doing so at home makes it even more special. It would be a dream come true," he concluded.

Miller's last ODI match was during the Champions Trophy, where he scored an impressive unbeaten century, despite New Zealand winning the semi-final.

The upcoming ODI will kick off a busy home season for South Africa, which includes several ICC World Test Championship matches and serves as a crucial step towards the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.
