Miller's Ambition for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

In a recent interview, veteran South African middle-order batsman David Miller expressed his strong desire to see the Proteas lift the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup trophy next year. As he approaches the final stages of his cricketing career, Miller hopes to conclude his international journey with a victory on home turf.

During his conversation with JioStar, Miller highlighted that participating in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, is a significant goal for him.

He stated, "I am genuinely excited about it. Achieving this goal is something I aspire to. I would love to cap off my career with a trophy. Being part of that World Cup team is a dream of mine."

Miller acknowledged that selection is not guaranteed, but he is committed to focusing on making the team and contributing as much as possible. He added, "It would be incredibly special to play in front of our fans in a place where I have spent so many years playing. Being part of that team would be fantastic."

Having been a crucial player in South Africa's white-ball format for over a decade, Miller has participated in three previous ODI World Cups: 2015, 2019, and 2023. He has scored 816 runs in 24 World Cup matches, boasting an impressive average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 113.33.

The upcoming 2027 World Cup presents Miller with a chance to compete on home soil, as South Africa will host the majority of the matches alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Scheduled from October 4 to November 21, 2027, the tournament will feature 57 matches across 12 venues in the three nations, with the final taking place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Miller has established himself as one of South Africa's most reliable middle-order batsmen in ODIs, amassing 4,611 runs in 178 matches at an average of 42.30 and a strike rate of 103.69, including seven centuries and 24 half-centuries. His ODI career highlights include a remarkable highest score of 139 against Australia.

He also made headlines during the 2015 World Cup, where he and JP Duminy set a world record with a 256-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
