Dane van Niekerk to Miss New Zealand Tour Due to Calf Injury
Injury Forces Van Niekerk Out of New Zealand Tour
Johannesburg, March 17: The South Africa Women’s cricket team has announced that all-rounder Dane van Niekerk will not participate in the remainder of the tour to New Zealand due to a right calf injury, as reported on social media.
The team revealed that Van Niekerk experienced discomfort just before the first T20 International (T20I), and a medical scan confirmed the severity of the injury, necessitating rehabilitation.
In her absence, Anneke Bosch from the Fidelity Titans has been called up to replace Van Niekerk for the duration of the tour. Additionally, veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who is Van Niekerk's wife, is also sidelined as she recovers from an illness.
The official statement confirmed, "Proteas Women all-rounder Dane van Niekerk will miss the remainder of the tour to New Zealand due to a right calf injury."
The series in New Zealand includes five T20Is and three ODIs, which are part of the Women’s Championship. The T20 matches are being held as double-headers alongside the men's games. South Africa is also facing another injury issue, as batter Jordan Hermann is out with a hamstring injury, though no replacement has been announced.
