Crystal Palace Makes a Record Signing

Crystal Palace has bolstered its roster for the upcoming European season by acquiring Zavier Gozo, a youth international from the United States, in a record transfer from Real Salt Lake.

The 19-year-old winger has signed a five-year deal with the club, with the transfer fee reported to be around USD 15 million.

Real Salt Lake confirmed that they will retain a significant portion of any future transfer fees for Gozo, who is noted as the first player from Utah to join a Premier League team.

Palace is set to kick off its Premier League campaign against Everton on Saturday and will also compete in the Europa League, with the league phase draw scheduled in Monaco next week.

Promise David Joins Brighton on Loan

Following his performance at the World Cup with Canada, forward Promise David is set to join Brighton on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise.

Brighton announced that the agreement for the 25-year-old David includes an obligation to purchase if specific conditions are met. He participated in four matches for Canada during the World Cup, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Switzerland.

Union Saint-Gilloise, which finished as the runner-up in the Belgian league, was eliminated from the Champions League qualifying rounds last week and will now compete in the Europa League, where the financial rewards are significantly lower.

Brighton and Union share a close relationship through their ownership and utilize player data analysis from Jamestown Analytics, a firm founded by Brighton's owner Tony Bloom, which is well-regarded in European football.

Nico Elvedi Signs with Leeds

Leeds has strengthened its defense by signing Swiss veteran Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach for a reported fee of 8 million euros (approximately USD 9.3 million).

Elvedi has participated in the last three World Cups, playing every minute of Switzerland's six matches during their quarterfinal run, which ended with a narrow loss to Argentina last month.

The 29-year-old center-back spent 11 years at Gladbach, where he played under Leeds coach Daniel Farke during the 2022-23 season.

Elvedi joins a Leeds team eager to build on a solid first season back in the Premier League, where the club, owned by the San Francisco 49ers, also reached the FA Cup semifinals.

Coventry's Ambitious Spending

The financial stakes for newly promoted teams in the Premier League are rising.

Championship winners Coventry have ramped up their offseason spending to approximately USD 160 million by signing 19-year-old forward Sidiki Cherif from Fenerbahce.

The reported transfer fee for Cherif was 20.5 million pounds (around USD 28 million), with Fenerbahce recently acquiring Belgian veteran Romelu Lukaku as they aim for their first Turkish league title since 2014.

Cherif, who joined Fenerbahce in February from French club Angers, was called up to the France Under-21 squad in March but did not make an appearance.

Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, will begin its first Premier League season in 25 years on Friday against reigning champions Arsenal.
