Ronaldo Celebrates with Fans in Toronto
On July 3, in Toronto, Portugal's captain Cristiano Ronaldo shared a heartfelt moment with his supporters as he stepped onto a balcony, acknowledging the enthusiastic crowd below after his team triumphed 2-1 against Croatia in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026. This victory secured Portugal's place in the Round of 16.
With a smile and a wave, Ronaldo connected with the fans eager to see the football superstar.
He later posted on Instagram simply stating, "Toronto."
In addition to the victory, Ronaldo made history by becoming the oldest player to score in a knockout match at the FIFA World Cup, achieving this feat at 41 years and 147 days old. He surpassed the previous record held by Lionel Messi, who scored at 39.

Remarkably, this was Ronaldo's first goal in knockout matches during his record sixth World Cup appearance. He scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after a VAR review awarded Portugal a penalty, equalizing after Croatia's Ivan Perisic had initially put them ahead.
Ronaldo's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match title. Croatia had taken the lead with Perisic's goal, marking him as the nation's all-time leading World Cup scorer. However, Ronaldo's penalty brought Portugal back into the game. Croatia had two goals disallowed for offside, including a late equalizer in stoppage time, as Portugal advanced to face Spain in the Round of 16. This match also signified a potential end to Luka Modric's World Cup career.
