Cristian Eriksen Expected to Leave Hospital After Collapsing During Friendly Match
Eriksen's Health Update Following On-Field Collapse
Odense [Denmark], June 8: Cristian Eriksen, the Danish football star, is anticipated to be released from the hospital shortly after experiencing a collapse during a pre-FIFA World Cup friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, according to the national team's physician.
Eriksen fell to the ground once more, nearly five years after his alarming incident at Euro 2021. During the friendly match against Ukraine in Odense, he collapsed in the 65th minute, clutching his chest. The 34-year-old player from VfL Wolfsburg received immediate medical attention and was able to walk to the ambulance independently. Consequently, the match was halted.
Team doctor Morten Boesen shared an update, stating, "I spoke with Christian this morning, and he is doing well." This statement was shared on the federation's social media, as reported by a media outlet. "He is with family and in good spirits."
Boesen further mentioned, "The expectation is that he will be discharged soon and can return home. We are taking good care of the players and staff and remain in regular contact with them."
After the incident, the Danish Football Federation confirmed on social media that Eriksen is conscious and stable, noting that the friendly match had been canceled following the 34-year-old's collapse on the field.
The federation stated, "Eriksen is conscious and is doing well under the circumstances," adding that the match had been called off, as reported by another media source.
This incident marks the second time Eriksen has collapsed while playing for his country, raising concerns among players and fans alike, and bringing back memories of his medical emergency during Denmark's UEFA European Championship match against Finland in 2021.
During that event, the midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, received life-saving CPR, and was later fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD).
Despite these challenges, Eriksen made a successful return to professional football, continuing to represent both his club and national team.
