Cricket Ireland's Ambitious Euro Nations Cup Initiative

Dublin [Ireland], March 21: Cricket Ireland is setting its sights on introducing the "Euro Nations Cup," with Chair Brian MacNeice expressing optimism that the tournament could commence as early as 2027, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.

The proposed Euro Nations Cup is envisioned to resemble the Asia Cup, featuring European teams such as England, Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Italy. The tournament is expected to adopt a T20 format, incorporating matches for both men's and women's teams.

During the announcement of Ireland's home international fixtures for 2026, MacNeice stated, "This idea has been under discussion with various stakeholders for quite some time. I am deeply passionate about it and firmly believe in its potential." He further noted, "Conversations have progressed to a stage where I feel confident about its realization. We anticipate launching it in the summer of '27, with more details to be revealed in the coming months."

MacNeice clarified that discussions are ongoing with various stakeholders involved in the event. He emphasized that it will cater to both men's and women's competitions. While it is premature to engage broadcasters until everything is finalized, he is optimistic about the interest from broadcasting networks.

In addition, Cricket Ireland has unveiled a comprehensive home schedule for its men's and women's teams, which includes two T20 matches against India in June. The season will kick off with a series against the 2021 ICC World Test Champions, New Zealand, in Belfast from May 27-30.

Following this, Ireland will face India in a two-match T20I series from June 26-28, and later host Afghanistan for five ODIs from August 5 to 14.

The women's team is preparing for the fourth edition of the ICC Women’s Championship, which includes hosting India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and the West Indies, along with tours to England, Australia, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.

The schedule begins with a home series against the West Indies in July, followed by away matches in England in September and Zimbabwe in early 2027.

Additionally, Ireland will participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales starting June 12, where they are placed in Group B alongside England, defending champions New Zealand, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.
