CISF's Recruitment Drive for Athletes

In a significant move, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) plans to hire approximately 450 athletes for various vacant positions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance its sports teams and elevate performance in national and international competitions by revising recruitment guidelines for Constable, Head Constable, and Assistant Sub-Inspector roles.

The Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is also making strides in expanding sports facilities, offering financial rewards to athletes and coaches, and enhancing training amenities. These efforts aim to foster greater participation and improve medal prospects at prestigious events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Police and Fire Games.

The CISF has announced that recruitment for around 450 sports positions will commence shortly, following amendments to the recruitment rules.

To support athletes, the CISF is upgrading sports infrastructure at its training centers, including the development of an athletics track at the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) in Hyderabad and facilities at the Subsidiary Training Centre (SSG) in Greater Noida.

Additionally, the CISF is working on establishing a Regional Sports Centre at the Rajaditya Cholan Regional Training Centre (RCRTC) in Thakkolam, with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this initiative.

This center will focus on training in various sports, including badminton, tennis, fencing, and cycling, thereby enhancing the sports ecosystem within the force.

CISF officials emphasized that these initiatives are designed to elevate training standards, provide athletes with superior equipment and nutritional support, and create more opportunities for personnel to excel in competitive sports.

CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan shared these developments during a meeting with sportspersons who represented the force in various national and international competitions this year.

Notably, five CISF athletes participated in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in 2026, with Head Constable Ritu earning a gold medal as part of the Indian women's kabaddi team.

The CISF has also seen a remarkable increase in its performance at the All India Police Sports Clusters, with medal counts rising from 120 in 2025-26 to 169 in 2026-27.

In the previous year, CISF athletes secured 47 gold, 30 silver, and 43 bronze medals, which improved to 64 gold, 46 silver, and 59 bronze medals in the following year.

The number of trophies won by CISF teams also doubled, increasing from 10 in 2025-26 to 20 in 2026-27, with equal representation in men's and women's categories.

To honor sporting achievements, the CISF distributed cash awards totaling around Rs 97 lakh to medal-winning athletes and coaches for the year 2025-26.

A total of 180 sportspersons and coaches will receive the Director General's Disc, while 161 personnel will be awarded the Director General's Commendation Certificates. Additionally, nine unit commanders will be recognized for their contributions to promoting sports within the force.

The CISF has introduced further financial incentives for athletes, granting special increments to 18 sportspersons in 2026 for their accomplishments, including five for international performances and 13 for national achievements.

To meet athletes' nutritional needs, approximately Rs 2 crore has been allocated for off-season special diet allowances for 2026-27, with around Rs 4 crore for in-season diets currently being processed.

The force has also provided sports kits worth about Rs 76 lakh to all Central Sports Teams and transferred Rs 71 lakh directly to athletes' bank accounts for personal sports kit requirements.

Through these recruitment efforts, infrastructure enhancements, financial incentives, and recognition of achievements, the CISF aims to bolster its sporting capabilities and improve representation and performance at major national and international events.
