He highlighted the growing dominance of T20 cricket, where players are increasingly prioritizing the shorter format due to its lucrative financial incentives. While India has excelled in white-ball cricket, clinching victories in the last three ICC tournaments, the Test team has suffered significant setbacks, including two whitewashes in recent years against New Zealand and South Africa.

Pujara emphasized the importance of identifying a core group of 25-30 players dedicated to Test cricket. He suggested that the BCCI should focus on nurturing talent from domestic cricket, including those who may not have IPL contracts, by providing them with training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) during the IPL season. He believes that with proper guidance and training over a couple of years, these players can be prepared to excel in the Test format.
