Chennai Super Kings' Anticipation for IPL 2026

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to be a focal point as the IPL 2026 commences on March 28 (Saturday). After finishing last in the IPL 2025 season, the five-time champions are eager for a revival with a revamped team. Despite the changes, MS Dhoni remains a key figure, continuing his role with the franchise at the age of 44. Speculation surrounds whether this season might mark the end of the veteran wicketkeeper-batter's illustrious career. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly addressed these retirement rumors, stating he would discuss Dhoni's future directly with him rather than sharing details with the media. "I will tell (MS) Dhoni what to do and not to the media," Ganguly remarked.

Sourav Ganguly On Foreign Players Missing IPL

In IPL 2026, several international players have chosen to miss parts of the season for various reasons. Notably, Cricket Australia has denied No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to their top bowlers Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc for the initial phase of the tournament due to injury and workload concerns. Additionally, Lockie Ferguson has opted out of the first seven matches with the Punjab Kings to spend time with his family. Ganguly acknowledged that while the absence of these foreign players is a setback for the franchises, it also opens doors for emerging talents. "It hurts when foreign players miss out for whatever reason so close to the tournament, but it also creates opportunity. I made my test debut because Sanjay Manjrekar got injured, so it doesn’t always happen in the right way, but like I said, it is an opportunity. However, the entire system is shaken for a franchise," Ganguly concluded.
