Honoring India's Junior Squash Stars

In New Delhi on August 4, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, recognized the achievements of India's medallists from the World Junior Squash Championship 2026. Among those honored was Anahat Singh, who clinched the gold medal, along with the bronze-winning Indian men's junior team comprising Aryaveer Dewan, Yusha Nafees, and Gurveer Singh.

Eighteen-year-old Anahat made history by becoming the first Indian to secure the women's singles title at the World Junior Squash Championships held in Canada last week. This marked her fifth appearance at the event and her second medal, having previously earned bronze in Cairo last year.

In a thrilling final, Anahat triumphed over Egypt's Ruqayya Salem with a decisive 3-0 victory, securing her prestigious title last Saturday.

During the event, Mandaviya motivated the young athletes to view their recent achievements as the start of a longer journey, with significant events like the Asian Games 2026 and the Olympic Games 2028 on the horizon.

He praised Anahat for her remarkable accomplishment, stating that her victory could inspire countless young Indians to pursue squash. In a heartfelt gesture, Anahat gifted the Minister an autographed squash racquet and ball.

The celebration was filled with joy as the athletes took selfies and engaged in lively conversations, making the event a memorable occasion.

India's recent successes in squash are particularly noteworthy, especially with the sport set to debut at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
