Carlos Queiroz Set to Make History as Ghana's Coach in World Cup 2023
Carlos Queiroz's Historic World Cup Journey
At the age of 73, Carlos Queiroz is on the verge of making history as he prepares to lead Ghana in their World Cup debut against Panama in Toronto on June 17. This match marks the beginning of his fifth consecutive World Cup as a head coach, a remarkable feat that started with Portugal in 2010.
Following his tenure with Portugal, Queiroz took charge of Iran for three successive tournaments in 2014, 2018, and 2022. His upcoming role with Ghana allows him to match the record held by Bora Milutinovic, who coached five different national teams across five consecutive World Cups from 1986 to 2002.
The record for the most World Cup appearances by a coach is held by Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira, who has participated in six tournaments, though not consecutively like Queiroz and Milutinovic.
Ghana's World Cup journey will continue with matches against England and Croatia after their opener against Panama.
The squad for the tournament includes: Goalkeepers - Joseph Anang, Benjamin Asare, Lawrence Ati-Zigi; Defenders - Jonas Adjetey, Derrick Luckassen, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Mumin, Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong Preprah, Baba Abdul Rahman, Alidu Seidu, Marvin Senaya; Midfielders - Augustine Boakye, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Elisha Owusu, Thomas Partey, Kwasi Sibo, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Caleb Yirenkyi; Forwards - Prince Kwabena Adu, Jordan Ayew, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Inaki Williams.
