Carlos Alcaraz has announced his return to competitive tennis at the US Open 2026, following a four-month recovery from a wrist injury. The 23-year-old Spanish tennis star confirmed his participation in the prestigious tournament, scheduled from August 30 to September 13, in New York.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner has not participated in any matches since April, when he sustained a wrist injury during the Barcelona Open, which forced him to withdraw. This injury also kept him out of major tournaments including the French Open, Wimbledon, and hard-court events in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Last year, Alcaraz clinched his second US Open title by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final and later triumphed at the Australian Open.
Despite his absence from the court, Alcaraz has managed to maintain his No. 2 ranking in the ATP standings.
Meanwhile, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has also been out of action since his Wimbledon victory, having withdrawn from the Cincinnati tournament due to a right knee injury, raising concerns about his readiness for the upcoming US Open.
The Cincinnati Open's official account confirmed Sinner's withdrawal, leaving the tournament without two of the sport's most promising young talents.
"Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right knee injury. Wishing all the best to our 2024 champion, and can’t wait to see you again next year!" the tournament's official handle stated.
Alcaraz made history by winning his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open, becoming the youngest player to reach the No. 1 ranking in ATP history at just 19 years old.
