Cameron Green's High Stakes in IPL 2026: Can He Deliver for MI Against KKR?
Cameron Green's IPL 2026 Debut
MI vs KKR IPL 2026: Cameron Green steps onto the field with significant expectations and a hefty price tag as the Mumbai Indians face off against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium this Sunday evening. With a record-setting auction price of INR 25.20 crore, the highest ever for an overseas player in IPL history, Green is under considerable pressure to prove his worth. Additionally, concerns have arisen regarding his bowling workload, as he has bowled only 7.1 overs in his last eight matches.
Interestingly, during the IPL auction in December 2025, Green was registered solely as a batter, despite being an all-rounder. He previously played for the Mumbai Indians in 2023 and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024. Green clarified that he is indeed available to bowl in IPL 2026, attributing his classification as a batter to a registration mistake made by his manager. “I’ll be good to bowl,” Green stated. “I don’t know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to say ‘batter’. I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It’s pretty funny how it’s all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end,” he explained.
Former Australian captain Greg Chappell, who has closely monitored Green's career, expressed concerns about the 26-year-old's current form, suggesting that his bowling has disrupted his batting rhythm. "Bowling has impacted his batting. He can still be one of the great all-rounders of the game because he has the talent, but it depends on whether he has the decision-making and mental skills to go with it, and whether he's receiving the best advice on his path forward," Chappell remarked during an interview.
Reflecting on his performance in the last two seasons, Green has shown his capability with both bat and ball. While playing for the Mumbai Indians, he accumulated 452 runs in 16 matches, including a remarkable century, but only took six wickets. In 2024, while with RCB, he scored 252 runs in 13 games and claimed 10 wickets.
