Ancelotti Hails Team's Performance

In Texas on June 30, Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti lauded his team's victory against Japan, calling it their most comprehensive display at the World Cup to date. He highlighted the tactical advancements made during the second half of the match.

Initially, Brazil faced challenges in penetrating Japan's well-structured defense. However, they adjusted their strategy after halftime, successfully creating more opportunities and delivering improved crosses.

Ancelotti emphasized the importance of patience and maintaining their formation, confident that goals would follow if the players remained disciplined. He acknowledged Japan's strength as a formidable, organized team that posed threats despite their loss.

Gabriel Martinelli emerged as the hero, scoring a thrilling winner in the 95th minute, leading Brazil to a 2-1 comeback victory and securing their place in the Round of 16 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Ancelotti remarked, "This was the most complete game we have played at the World Cup. We struggled initially as Japan defended tightly, but in the second half, we found space and improved our crosses. This was definitely a tactical evolution. At halftime, I urged the players to stay patient, as we would eventually score, but we needed to maintain our shape to avoid jeopardizing our game. Japan is a very strong team, well-organized, and they create dangerous chances while being physically imposing."

He also praised Martinelli's performance as a substitute, calling him an ideal game-changer.

"Martinelli brings a lot of intensity to the game; he is always at his best," Ancelotti noted.

Although Ancelotti contemplated bringing Neymar off the bench, he ultimately decided against it.

"We were considering extra time, and I informed Neymar that I would bring him on if the match was still tied at a certain point. Fortunately, we didn't need him," he explained.

Brazil's next challenge will be against the winner of the upcoming match between Ivory Coast and Norway, scheduled for Sunday in New Jersey.
