Brazil Football Confederation Inspects Kolkata Stadium for Historic Match
Inspection of Salt Lake Stadium for India-Brazil Football Match
A delegation from the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) visited the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake, Kolkata, on Thursday to assess the preparations and infrastructure for the upcoming football match between India and Brazil.
During their visit, the delegation evaluated the stadium's facilities alongside West Bengal's Sports Minister, Indranil Khan.
This inspection is part of the ongoing preparations for the much-anticipated football match, which will see India face off against the Brazilian team, known for their five World Cup victories. The visit aims to give Brazilian officials a clear picture of the venue's readiness for the event.
Earlier this month, the Bengal Sports Minister referred to the match as a historic event, highlighting that it will be the first time the Indian national team competes against the five-time World Cup champions.
He emphasized that Kolkata, a city rich in football culture, is the perfect location for this significant encounter, scheduled to take place at the Salt Lake Stadium just before Durga Puja.
Indranil Khan expressed his excitement, stating, “This is a historic moment. The Indian national football team will face Brazil, one of the top-ranked teams globally. We are fortunate that this event will occur in Kolkata, where football is deeply embedded in our culture. This history will be made on October 3, right before Durga Puja.”
He added that the stadium would be filled with fans supporting the Indian team, and confirmed that both sides have officially agreed to the match. Discussions with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding ticketing are already underway. Khan stressed the importance of a transparent and fair ticketing process, aiming to avoid past issues of irregularities and black marketing.
The AIFF has confirmed that the Brazilian senior men's national team will play against India in an international friendly on October 3 in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone for Indian football.
Brazil, the most successful men's national team in football history, will be facing India at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, making this one of the most notable matches in Indian football. This fixture will also represent the highest-ranked opponent India has faced since the FIFA World Rankings began in 1992, with Brazil currently holding the fifth position.
