Blessing Muzarabani's Controversial Move to KKR Amid PCB Ban
Blessing Muzarabani Joins KKR
Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has signed with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a substitute for Mustafizur Rahman, who was released due to escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh. Muzarabani's decision to join KKR has sparked some controversy, as he was previously set to play for Islamabad United in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL). His choice to participate in the IPL instead led to a two-year ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
In response to the situation, Muzarabani's agent, Rob Humphries, criticized the PCB for failing to provide a formal contract to the bowler. The PCB has since clarified that while a verbal agreement was made, no written contract was ever issued. They stated that the agreement included salary and remuneration details, which Muzarabani accepted, leading to his participation in the IPL. This action was deemed a violation of PCB regulations, resulting in his ban.
Agent's Statement on the Matter
Rob Humphries took to social media to express that only a verbal agreement existed between Blessing Muzarabani and Islamabad United, with no written contract provided. He noted that the deal was contingent upon receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket, which could only be granted with a formal contract. Despite this, the franchise prematurely announced the signing on social media.
Humphries stated, “We have remained silent publicly over the past six weeks to avoid adding to the issues faced by the Pakistan Super League and the PCB. On February 13, Blessing was approached by Islamabad United regarding a playing opportunity for the 2026 PSL. The agreement was made pending the acquisition of an NOC from Zimbabwe Cricket, which cannot be obtained without a PSL contract. Islamabad United/PSL announced the signing publicly before any official contract was finalized.”
