Stokes Discusses Injury After Fourth Test

Manchester [UK], July 28: England's Test captain Ben Stokes shared insights regarding his hamstring injury sustained while batting on the third day of the fourth Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against India at Old Trafford.

During his innings on Day 3, Stokes encountered some discomfort due to his hamstring. He briefly left the field for treatment but returned to play a remarkable innings, scoring 141 runs off 198 balls, which included 11 fours and three sixes.

In the post-match press conference, Stokes commented on his condition, stating, “Mentally, I feel fine. Physically, I’ve experienced better days. It’s been a significant workload throughout the series, especially last week at Lords, where I spent considerable time batting and bowling. I’ve mentioned to the team that pain is just an emotion, so I’m managing it.”

Elaborating on his injury, he noted, “It’s actually my bicep tendon that’s been bothering me. With the extensive workload, it has flared up a bit, but I managed to keep going without worsening it. I hope it calms down, and I’ll be fit for the final match.”

When asked about his availability for the fifth Test, Stokes remarked, “Given the time we’ve spent on the field and the overs bowled, everyone is likely to feel sore and fatigued. We’ll assess everyone’s condition, and the next few days of rest will be crucial for recovery. We may need to make some changes to bring in fresh players, but those decisions will come closer to the match.”

In a recap of the Manchester Test, India managed to secure a draw against England, thanks to impressive centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings. India batted for over five sessions, finishing Day 5 at 425/4, with Jadeja at 107* and Sundar at 101*, having added 203 runs for the fifth wicket.
