BCCI Penalizes CSK and Players for IPL Code Violations
CSK Faces Consequences for Slow Over Rate
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed penalties on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) following a significant violation of the IPL's code of conduct during their match against Delhi Capitals (DC). The team was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate, marking their first offense under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code. This incident represents the third slow over rate penalty in IPL 2026. Previously, Shreyas Iyer was fined the same amount when Punjab Kings (PBKS) failed to keep up the over rate against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 31. PBKS faced another penalty against CSK, resulting in Iyer being fined INR 24 lakh for a second infraction. Additionally, Shubman Gill was also penalized for a slow over rate against Delhi Capitals.
Nitish Rana Penalized for Umpire Clash
Nitish Rana Fined
In another incident, Delhi Capitals' batter Nitish Rana was reprimanded by the BCCI after an altercation with the umpire during the match against CSK. Rana expressed his frustration when Tristan Stubbs was denied permission to change his gloves in the 19th over, which led to Stubbs getting out shortly after. As a result, Rana was fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.3, which addresses the use of audible obscenities during a game. Rana acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the sanctions imposed by the Match Referee.
