BCCI Celebrates Ajit Agarkar's Contributions

New Delhi, October 7: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed its gratitude to Ajit Agarkar, the outgoing chairman of the senior men's selection committee, for his service, which included significant achievements such as three ICC trophies.


In a post shared on X, the BCCI acknowledged Agarkar's impact on Indian cricket, highlighting the team's accomplishments during his leadership.


“His tenure was filled with remarkable milestones for Indian cricket, including three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup victories, and consecutive gold medals at the Asian Games, alongside a run to the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Thank you, Mr. Ajit Agarkar @imAagarkar, for your dedication and contributions as Chairman of the Men’s Selection Committee. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” the BCCI stated on X.


India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, also paid tribute to Agarkar, commending his unwavering commitment to prioritizing the team.


“Dear Ajit Bhai, it has been a privilege to work alongside you. The three ICC trophies reflect your dedication: always putting the team first. History will surely recognize your contributions. Thank you for everything, and I wish you all the best for your future!” Gambhir shared on X.


Agarkar's official term as chairman concluded on October 4. He assumed the role in July 2023 and chose not to extend his tenure.


Under his leadership, India secured three ICC trophies: the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and another ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.


Additionally, the Indian men's team clinched two Asia Cup titles and achieved back-to-back gold medals at the Asian Games, while also reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.


The BCCI is currently seeking applications for a vacant position on the senior men's selection committee. Former Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha is serving as the interim chief selector and led the selection meeting on Tuesday to finalize India's squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
