BCCI's Commitment to Young Cricketers

On September 3, in Mumbai, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed the board's ambition to guide young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, along with other emerging talents, towards establishing enduring careers akin to that of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The 15-year-old is receiving the necessary support to avoid becoming merely a fleeting sensation.

During a review meeting held at the BCCI headquarters, Saikia was joined by prominent figures including India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and VVS Laxman, who heads the Centre of Excellence.

Saikia emphasized that the BCCI is diligently observing Sooryavanshi and other young players, ensuring they receive the right mentorship to foster successful international careers.

He stated, "The BCCI takes pride in promoting a 15-year-old player who is already making waves on the international stage. We are committed to ensuring that his journey is not just a fleeting moment. We aspire for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and players of his caliber to have lasting impacts like Sachin Tendulkar and other legends. His progress is being closely monitored from every angle to secure a bright future in cricket."

At just 15 years and 157 days, Sooryavanshi recently made history by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in the Duleep Trophy, breaking a record that stood for 57 years.

He also showcased his talent by scoring 151 runs in three matches against Zimbabwe, earning the Player of the Series title as India achieved a clean sweep.

Earlier, he made headlines as the youngest Indian to debut in T20I cricket during the series against England. His debut followed an impressive IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties. His remarkable performance made him the leading run-scorer of the tournament, with a record 72 sixes.

Sooryavanshi also garnered several post-season accolades, including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards. His stellar performance in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament, further underscores his vast potential.
