Honoring Cricket Excellence in Baramulla

Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], March 18: The Baramulla Cricket Forum (BCF) held a special ceremony today to recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to the sport of cricket. The event featured Maj Gen Manoj Joshi, VSM, GOC 19 Infantry Division, as the Chief Guest.

Among the distinguished honorees was Auqib Nabi Dar, a talented cricketer from Baramulla, who has gained national recognition for his impressive performances, especially during the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season.

Auqib played a pivotal role in Jammu and Kashmir's historic Ranji Trophy victory last month. In the final match against Karnataka, he delivered a remarkable five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/54 in 23 overs, which helped J&K bowl out Karnataka for 293, establishing a commanding first-innings lead of 291 runs.

This marked Jammu and Kashmir's first appearance in a Ranji final, and they were crowned champions due to their substantial first-innings advantage, which proved too great for the eight-time champions Karnataka, captained by Devdutt Padikkal.

Auqib Nabi emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy Elite 2025-26 season, claiming 60 wickets across 10 matches at an outstanding average of 12.57, which included seven five-wicket hauls and two four-wicket hauls.

His exceptional performances were instrumental in helping the Paras Dogra-led Jammu and Kashmir team secure the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 67 years.

During the BCF ceremony, Hilal Ahmed Zargar and Muzaffar Mattoo were also recognized for their contributions to cricket development in the region.

Certificates were awarded to the Women’s Cricket Team, acknowledging their participation and increasing influence in the sport. The Chief Guest praised BCF's efforts in fostering a strong platform for youth and encouraging a culture of sportsmanship.

The event concluded with the unveiling of the BCF Cup Trophy, followed by a vote of thanks and a group photograph.
