Bangladesh Takes Charge on Opening Day

Dhaka [India], May 8: Bangladesh showcased a commanding performance on the first day of the inaugural Test against Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, finishing Day 1 with an impressive score of 301 for 4.

Despite facing early setbacks, the home team found resilience through a stellar century from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 101 runs, and a determined 91 from Mominul Haque, effectively countering the Pakistani bowling attack.

After winning the toss, Pakistan's captain opted to bowl first. The pace duo of Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali quickly found their rhythm, with Afridi dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy for 8 runs in the seventh over, while Hasan Ali took out Shadman Islam for 13. This left Bangladesh struggling at 31 for 2 within just over 10 overs.

However, the early breakthroughs proved to be the highlight for the visitors. Shanto and Mominul combined to form a formidable 170-run partnership for the third wicket, turning the tide in favor of Bangladesh.
