Incident of Assault on Nayeem Hasan

In a troubling incident, Bangladesh cricketer Nayeem Hasan has alleged that he was assaulted by police officers in Chattogram. The confrontation occurred as he was returning home from Dhaka, where his team, Prime Bank Cricket Club, participated in a match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, although Nayeem did not play in the game.

The reported assault took place near Lalkhan Bazar in the city. Nayeem expressed his shock at the incident, stating that he was unaware of the reasons behind the police's actions. "I kept informing them of my identity, but they ignored me," he recounted to the media in Chattogram. "They struck me without restraint using sticks and plastic pipes. When I later identified myself at the police station, the officer in charge instructed me to lower my gaze while speaking to him."

Nayeem raised questions about the legitimacy of the officers' actions, asking, "If they were indeed police, why did they attempt to force me into a CNG vehicle instead of a police car? I demand a thorough investigation and justice regarding this entire situation."

Amirul Islam, the deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, assured the public that appropriate measures would be taken against any officers found culpable. He stated, "Preliminary observations suggest that the involved officers did not adhere to the correct protocols during this operation. We are committed to ensuring that Nayeem receives justice, and those responsible will face consequences."
