Babar Azam's Press Conference Highlights

Press conferences surrounding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are proving to be more captivating than the matches themselves. Recently, Babar Azam found himself in the spotlight again, responding to a journalist's inquiry about his ability to finish games, especially in light of comparisons to Virat Kohli. The captain of Peshawar Zalmi has faced scrutiny regarding his strike rate, which has been a significant concern in his T20 career. Misbah-ul-Haq, the team's coach, challenged Babar on whether he had made any improvements in his performance. Babar's reply was noteworthy, as he currently holds one of the lowest strike rates among his teammates. For instance, Kusal Mendis leads the team with 309 runs in five innings and boasts a strike rate of 171.67, while Sahibzada Farhan has scored 249 runs at an impressive strike rate of 180.43. In contrast, Babar's strike rate this season stands at just 130.68.

During a press conference following Zalmi's 24-run victory over Multan Sultans, Babar explained, "You have to play differently at different positions, considering the requirements while monitoring the scoreboard. It's essential to assess the conditions first. For example, on the Karachi pitch where he scored 240, the following day, the conditions changed, and we struggled to reach 180. Thus, the conditions play a crucial role."

Babar further emphasized the importance of employing common sense in cricket rather than adopting an aggressive approach from the outset. He stated, "You can't play the same way every day; the pitch varies, and opponents will have strategies against you. You can't just start playing shots without careful consideration. A different game plan is necessary each day. If batting during the first six overs, I know I need to capitalize on the Powerplay. Then, it's about building partnerships, taking calculated risks, and targeting bowlers."
