Australia Women Choose to Field First in World Cup Final

On July 5, in London, Australia Women won the toss and decided to field first in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final against England Women.

The Australian women's cricket team has a remarkable history, having clinched the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title six times, while England is aiming for their first championship since the tournament's inception in 2009.

Both teams have maintained an undefeated streak throughout the tournament.

Australia's captain, Sophie Molineux, expressed her strategy during the toss, stating, “We’re going to have a bowl. It’s a beautiful day, and we want to apply pressure early. I don’t expect the pitch to change much. There are no changes to our lineup. Pez (Perry) has recovered well after yesterday’s training. It’s a special day, and the girls had a couple of days off before resuming training.”

England's captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, also shared her thoughts, saying, “I would have chosen to bowl as well. It’s a fresh wicket, and having runs on the board in a final is advantageous. We’re sticking with our unchanged squad. It would be unwise not to rely on our experience. Ultimately, it’s about scoring one more run than the opposition today.”
