Transforming Guwahati into a Sports Hub

Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 13: The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced the ongoing development of the Amingaon Complex in Guwahati, which is set to become a cutting-edge integrated sports hub.

This ambitious project will include an indoor stadium, a cricket stadium, a swimming pool, a hostel for players, and various other modern amenities. The Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative aims to nurture grassroots sporting talent and position Assam as a venue for prestigious national and international sporting events.

On social media, the Chief Minister shared, “This is the Amingaon Complex in Guwahati, which we are developing as an integrated sports complex- indoor stadium, cricket stadium, swimming pool, players’ hostel and much more.”

He further noted that this project is part of the state's broader strategy to enhance sports infrastructure and create opportunities for budding athletes.

Sarma remarked, “Not only will this ground-up approach develop local talent but also enable us to host premier events.”

The integrated sports complex is anticipated to offer world-class training and competition facilities, significantly boosting Assam's ability to host major sporting events in the future.

In a related note, Chief Minister Sarma recently stated that the state government will intensify its efforts against drug trafficking over the next five years. He urged the community to support this campaign.

He highlighted that Assam has become a transit point for heroin, methamphetamine, and Yaba tablets smuggled from Myanmar to various regions across India.

“This trend is a serious concern. Tackling major drug traffickers is particularly challenging, as the main operators often operate from abroad while using multiple intermediaries for distribution,” the Chief Minister explained.
